Presto rapido 1994

About

About this bike

In 1924 B.H.J. Stroober founded a bicycle storage, called the "silver bike hotel". You could park you're bike there and also repairs were carried out. In the 30's the bicycle storage transforms in a bike shop called "rijwielmagazijn Presto". During the mid-sixties, Evert Stroober, son and successor of Mr. B.H.J. Stroober, takes over the store.

During this period the production of custom made frames to the wishes of the customer starts. Some of the best and well know Dutch artisan frame builders have worked at Presto. Such as: Jan le Grand, Joop de Boer, Peter Serier and Bertus Slesker.

Presto supplied bikes to many famous cyclists. To name a few:  Cees Stam, Klaas Balk, John Doe, Gerard Koel and Eddy Merckx. Until the nineties steel frames sold under the name Presto. The later Presto steel frames were built in Italy by Andrea Pesenti. Anno 2014, the Presto firm still exists. The shop is still located in the Haarlemmerstraat in Amsterdam

In my opinion Presto is one of the best brands money could buy during the 80's. Even the famous T.I. Raleigh frames were build by in the Presto work shop by Jan le Grand. The particular example I'm selling here is very likely made in Italy by Andrea Pesenti in 1994. Dating these late Presto's is hard, since there aren't many around and there is not much information left, even not on the world wide web :). Anyway it is an beautiful bike which definitely have been build by a master frame builder.

I've no information about the first owner. Since this build was done specifically for a customer. The frame itself is made out of Columbus Gara tubing and decked out with a the last generation of the Dura Ace 7400 group group, the 7403. The paintjob on this bike is still in a very good condition and a typical 90's design. Nice piece of Ducth/Italian cycling heritage..
