Elro - Clemenso - Femis bank Team bike Ex-pro. Nico van Hest 1981

Hercka (Clemenso) was a small company led by Clement Schmitz. It was a family business where the wife, son and daughter each had their own task. They produced their own frames in Diest (Belgium) instead of sourcing them from Italy, something were mr. Schmitz was very proud of. In the late 70's Hercka changed it name.  From then on the normal bikes were  produced under the name Eurobike and Eurovelo. The racing bicycles were labeled Clemenso (Clement, in Italian).

In 1981 the Elro team started a collaboration with Clemenso and the Fermis Bank. In the spring of that same year Noël Truyers (editor of Cyclosprint) and the designated team leader, went with some Clemenso frames to the factory of Mavic, in the vicinity of Lyon,  to install the MAVIC bicycle components to the frames. Mavic was starting to enter the bike market with its own designed parts and wanted to test them. Therefore they started the sponsorship of this small belgium team.

The bike I sell here belonged to former pro Nico van Hest. I've bought it from Jack who lived in Pijnacker a small village near Rotterdam. Jack always had the dream to become a professional cyclist when he was a kid. He lived somewhere in Brabant, I forgot exactly where but anyway there was a bike shop in that village were they sold the Elro team bikes from the season the year before. Jack got kids, bought a house and forgot his precious Clemenso. Till I've bought it from him.

The bike is still in a good condition. It has some marks here and there, which is normal since it was used during competition. The frame itself is made out of Columbus SL tubes and has a number tag holder. Furthermore is the bike almost completely equipped with Mavic parts, which isn't strange since they were one of the sponsors of the team. I'm still trying to source all the original parts to get this piece of Dutch bike history back into it's original state, which will take sometime, since finding these Mavic parts isn't easy.
