Gazelle Champion Mondial AA Super 1988

About

About this bike

During the the 70's and the 80's, Gazelle was gazelle conquering the Dutch market. The AA super  was one of the most rarest frames made in those days by Gazelle - the seat tube has a special 'dented' shape to enable even shorter distance between the wheels and more competitive riding position! It'was very rare and only produced for 5 years, from 1984 till 1989.

The odd thing about this AA is the framenumber. It is 3200167, which would normally date it as a 1978 model. Which is definitely not the case here. Since it doesn't have the typical wishbone seatstay - which was a typical characteristic of the early produced AA super's - I conclude that this is a 1988 modell. Other data that support this claim, are the decals, which are typical for the late 80 gazelle's. Also the campagnolo Chorus group and more specific the crank, are only produced in 1988.

The bike itself is still in a very good condition. I bought it from a former banker in Utrecht. He told me that he got a new job back in the late 80's in Switzerland and only used it for 2 years. I bought it in 2014 from him and have cherished it since then but it is now time to go. handlebar tape and all the cables are replaced. I would describe the condition of the wheelset as near NOS condition. A beautifull sought after gem...
