About this bike
I have owned a lot of Gazelle Champion Mondial's in my life, but this one is truly special . I bought the bike from mr. van Dongen, he lived in Stolwijk, a small village near Rotterdam. He told me that he bought his first gazelle in 1978. In 1983 he bought another Gazelle Champion mondial for his wife. I bought both bikes from him, besides the bikes he also gave me the original touch up pens, proofs of purchase and maintenance certificates.
This gazelle AA is very rare. It has expensive extra options, the chromed fork and rearstays. It also has an Roto bracket, but it hasn't got the butterfly bridge which was typical for an Gazelle AA frame. The only explenation I can think of is that this AA frame is a precursor of the AB frame that officially was introduced in 1979 or that the stock of a butterbly bridges was depleted and that they therefore used this one instead.
The bike is in a exceptional good condition. It has almost no visible damages. Mr van Dongen liked his gazelle touch up pen, so there are some touch ups on the frame but they are barely noticeable. The chrome looks like new , only the chromed rear triangel has some small blemishes. The frame itself is made out of reynolds 531C tubes. Furthermore is the bike equiped with the best Campagnolo had to offer in those days. A complete Campagnolo record group. Pay extra attention to the front mech this is the very rare 4 hole version that only was produced in 1978. A true masterpiece for a Gazelle collector!
