About this bike

In 1924 B.H.J. Stroober founded a bicycle storage, called the "silver bike hotel". You could park you're bike there and also repairs were carried out. In the 30's the bicycle storage transforms in a bike shop called "rijwielmagazijn Presto". During the mid-sixties, Evert Stroober, son and successor of Mr. B.H.J. Stroober, takes over the store.

During this period the production of custom made frames to the wishes of the customer starts. Some of the best and well know Dutch artisan frame builders have worked at Presto. Such as: Jan le Grand, Joop de Boer, Peter Serier and Bertus Slesker.

Jan le Grand, joined Presto in the 60's,  when he stopped cycling.  Mid 70s Peter Post asked him to become chief engineer for his TI-Raleigh cycling team.  Around 1980 Jan le Grand stopped building and subsequently the brand disappeared for a period of seven years. Luckily Loek Valk relaunched the brand in 1987 together with frame builder Jan van Dalen.

Presto supplied bikes to many famous cyclists. To name a few:  Cees Stam, Klaas Balk, John Doe, Gerard Koel and Eddy Merckx. Until the nineties steel frames sold under the name Presto. The later Presto steel frames were built in Italy by Andrea Pesenti. Anno 2014, the Presto firm still exists. The shop is still located in the Haarlemmerstraat in Amsterdam

In my opinion Presto is one of the best brands money could buy during the 70's and the 80's. Even the famous T.I. Raleigh frames were build by in the Presto work shop by Jan le Grand. The particular example I'm selling here is probably also made by the  the master himself in 1977. It has all the typical characteristics of a le Grand build presto, like the square brake bridge and xxx mark in the chainstays and bottombracket shell.

I've bought the bike from the chairman of the Amsterdam based cycling club Arc-Ulysses. One of the members found the bike in his home and donated it to the club. At first they wanted to use the bike as a trainingbike for the junior riders. Luckily they decided otherwise and so it came in my possession.

I've tried to keep the bike original as possible and therefore haven't changed much about it. The frame itself is made out of reynolds 531C tubes. I've owned several Presto's but this really is the most beautiful one. Paint and chrome are in a perfect condition. It almost has no scratches or any visible damages. I dare to say that this is probably the most beautiful Presto I have ever seen. It is equipped with a Complete Campagnolo Nuovo Record groupset. The wheels have been respoked. Lever rubbers and handlebar tape is still the original as how I have found it. A true masterpiece for a everybody who wants to own a piece of Dutch cycling history..
